(News From Underground) -- Here are some new items on the chances and/or likely consequences of a US stike against Iran: John Bolton claiming that Bush/Cheney will attack Iran before "the next President" takes over; Mohamed ElBaradei warning that the Middle East will turn
into "a ball of fire" if the US/Israel go through with it (and that, in
the event, he will resign as chief of the IAEA); and a harrowing
survey, by David DeBatto (a former Army counterintel Special Agent), of
the catastrophic consequences for us all if BushCo makes this fatal move.
Now, having read these pieces, take a look at today's New York Times (or Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, Chicago Tribune or USA Today) or take a peek at what they're jabbering about on CNN or MSNBC (or FOX), or any of the nightly network newscasts. What do you see "covered" there?
These are hard times indeed for anyone who isn't in a trance.

John Bolton:
Israel will attack Iran before next President sworn in
06/23/2008 @ 5:27 pm
Filed by Stephen C. Webster
John
Bolton, a former United Nations ambassador appointed by President
George W. Bush, has predicted that the state of Israel will attack
Iran's nuclear sites before the next US president is sworn in.
In
an interview with UK's The Telegraph, Bolton said the Arab world would
be 'pleased' at news of such an attack. "It [the reaction] will be
positive privately," he said. "I think there'll be public denunciations
but no action."
However, Bolton panned the idea that an attack
on Iran would be carried out by American forces, stating: ... "the
administration has essentially given up that possibility. I don't think
it's serious any more. If you had asked me a year ago, I would have
said I thought it was a real possibility. I just don't think it's in
the cards."

'Ball of Fire' if Iran Attacked: IAEA Chief
DUBAI
- The UN atomic watchdog chief warned on Saturday that an attack on
Iran over its controversial nuclear programme would turn the region
into a fireball, as Tehran rejected an Israeli strike as "impossible."
Mohamed
ElBaradei also warned that he would not be able to continue in his role
as International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) director general should
the Islamic republic be attacked.
His stark comments came as
Iran stressed yet again that it will not negotiate with world powers
over its nuclear programme if it is required to suspend its
controversial uranium enrichment.

The Coming Catastrophe?
The finishing touches on several contingency plans for attacking Iran
By David DeBatto
Global Research Editor's note
We
bring to the attention of our readers David DeBatto's scenario as to
what might occur if one of the several contingency plans to attack
Iran, with the participation of Israel and NATO, were to be carried
out. While one may disagree with certain elements of detail of the
author's text, the thrust of this analysis must be taken seriously.
"Israel
has said a strike on Iran will be "unavoidable" if the Islamic regime
continues to press ahead with alleged plans for building an atom-bomb."
(London Daily Telegraph, 6/11/2008)
"Chancellor Angela Merkel of
Germany joined President Bush on Wednesday in calling for further
sanctions against Iran if it does not suspend its uranium enrichment
program." Mr. Bush stressed again that "all options are on the table,"
which would include military force. (New York Times, 6/11/2008)
